Everything is Spiritual
Life – Last week at the One Another group, one of my friend’s named Alex mentioned to me a DVD he had entitled, “Everything is Spiritual.” He was raving about how powerful it was and it opened his eyes to our life being a spiritual life and not just having a spiritual component to our lives.
The DVD is by Rob Bell, the guy who does the nooma DVD’s that is short talks about different things in life that teach spiritual truths because everything in life is spiritual. Rob Bell is a pastor in Michigan but is most known for his nooma videos.
He also goes on tour and gives talks about different topics and this Everything is Spiritual talk was one of his tours that he did a few years back. In the video, he starts with Genesis and the creation story then he goes into how big the universe is then covers the smallness of the universe by discussing Quantum Physics which is the really small things which we cannot see with the naked eye. We need a microscope to see this realm.
During the talk, Bell ties everything together by saying in the Hebrew culture there is no word for spiritual because all life is spiritual regardless if you are in a relationship with God or not. He said Jesus never mentioned a spiritual life because it didn’t exist in His culture because Everything is Spiritual in the Jewish culture.
I began to think about life and how in our culture, we are so use to putting on different faces in different situations. I see our way of life being about compartmentalizing everything. What I mean by that is we have a work life, a social life, a home life, a church life, and a private life. We put on a different face for each life and live them as though they were separate. Should life be lived in separate components or should it be lived as one cohesive whole?
As I was reflecting on God’s Word and thinking about what He wants for our lives, I was led to the Colossians chapter three.
Colossians 3:23 (New International Version)
23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,
In this verse, The Apostle Paul is clearly stating that life is meant to be lived with all your heart because your boss is Jesus and you should give Him your best in everything you do in this life.
Paul makes reference to people not working to please men but to please God. Paul knew that in life, people will work for human bosses but instead of not working hard for them, we should work that much more diligently for them because it is a good witness and God is our real boss and He requires us to give our best to Him in everything that we are involved in during this life.
This verse covers all of life. Even though this verse mentions men and working it starts with whatever you do. Paul is saying life is only worth living when you give your best in everything.
Paul grew up a Jew and he understood the principle in their culture of all of life being lived for God. He lived his life by the Everything is Spiritual take on living.
We are to live our life with the whatever you do, do it for Jesus attitude because our life isn’t a series of different components where we put on different faces rather our life is to be lived with the same face in different situations because Everything is Spiritual and God is talking to us, and leading our lives each and every single moment of every single day we live on this planet..
The Challenge – As you roll through life this week, pray for strength to live your life for God giving your best because Everything is Spiritual and either glorifies Him or doesn’t.
Enjoy life and celebrate more because in doing that you will bring a super duper smile to our Heavenly Father’s face.
Be Blessed,
Joey
PS: If you need prayer, write you requests in the comments section of the blog and we will pray for those needs. Let us know when God answers your prayers by sending your testimonies.
If you haven't received Jesus Christ yet and you want to, pray this prayer with me. Dear God I admit I am a sinner in need of a Savior. I believe the Savior who can and will forgive my sins and give me eternal life is Jesus Christ. I confess Jesus today as my Lord and Savior and commit my life to Him. I pray this in the name of Jesus Amen.
Let us know if you received Christ so we can celebrate with you because it’s the greatest thing you will ever do in this life.
